The Shanghai Jiading Industrial Zone, covering an area of 78 square kilometers, was established in 1992. After 28 years of development, the zone is now a prosperous and innovative industrial city with complete functions, according to a news report on Oct 16.
The zone is currently home to more than 2,000?real economy enterprises, including over 50 Fortune Global 500 firms. Eight pillar industries, including automobiles and?spare?parts, high-end equipment manufacturing, the headquarters economy, e-commerce, the cultural and creative industry, internet?finance, and new energy resources, are currently thriving in the zone.
Statistics show that the total industrial output of enterprises above designated size?in the park exceeded 100 billion yuan ($15.04 billion)?this year, and its major economic indicators have reported double-digit?growth in recent years, putting it at the forefront of all major industrial zones in Shanghai.
The zone's efforts to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries have contributed to its high-quality growth over the years. The high-end manufacturing sector, strategic emerging industries, and modern services in the zone have seen rapid growth in recent years, suggesting that the zone's adjustments to its industrial structure has helped enhance the stability and competitiveness of its industrial and supply chains.?
Local authorities have said that the zone will work to develop a comprehensive development pattern focusing on the integration of the primary, secondary, and tertiary?industries, and highlighting the transition from a factor-driven economy to an innovation-driven one.
The zone has deepened cooperation with scientific research institutions and set up a number of industrialization bases, including the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)?and the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology of the CAS, in an effort to encourage the commercialization and application of scientific achievements.
