Medical project targets hypertension patients

A key medical project listed in the national 13th Five Year Plan (2016-2020)?targeted at patients with H-type primary hypertension was launched at Pingyao People's Hospital on March 30.

H-type primary hypertension is a kind of primary hypertension accompanied by hyperhomocysteinemia, which is likely to cause a stroke.

The project will help patients in Pingyao county receive better treatment and drug subsidies offered by the national government. Pingyao People's Hospital will provide scientific and systematic management and services for each high-risk patient with the disease, under the guidance of expert groups from April 1.

"We will also conduct genetic testing to help improve the treatment of patients and find a cure for the disease," said Liang Pengfei, vice-president of the hospital.

Cardiovascular diseases, especially strokes and myocardial infarctions, currently rank first in the causes of death among patients, with the related death-toll accounting for over 40 percent of deaths.

The project is expected to help decrease the incidence of stroke by 21 percent among patients with H-type primary hypertension.
