Toyota should be judged objectively despite being forced to recall thousands of its cars worldwide, says an article in the Oriental Morning Post. Excerpts:
The Toyota crisis has exposed some profound problems with Japanese enterprises, shattering the myth of the made-in-Japan tag. But instead of sitting on judgment, we should evaluate the company objectively.
As the world's top automaker by sales, Toyota had a reputation of making products of impeccable quality. So before the exact causes that made Toyota recall its vehicles are verified, the world should not put the entire blame on the company.
Some American politicians and workers' union are reportedly trying to politicize the Toyota issue and a section of the media is helping them by encouraging consumers to lodge complaints against the largest auto exporter to the US. Too much pressure and baseless accusations could hamper Toyota's innovative initiative as well as consumers' interests.
Akio Toyota's visit to China shows his respect for the Chinese market. His seriousness means Chinese consumers could enjoy the most advanced Toyota technology in the future, just like their counterparts in the US do now.
