S. Korea proposes inter-Korean sports talks during Winter Asiad(Xinhua)Updated: 2007-01-19 09:21 SEOUL - The South Korea Olympic Committee (KOC) on Wednesday proposed to hold inter-Korean sports talk with its counterpart of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) during the upcoming Winter Asian Games in Changchun, northeast China. "We sent a letter to Mun Jae-dok, president of DPRK's Olympic Committee, Tuesday to suggest sports talks in Changchun on January 30," said a press release of the KOC. "It was a revised suggestion to the DPRK, which had proposed that the sports talks, the fourth of their kind, be held at Kaesong on January 22," the committee said. Kaesong is DPRK's border city close to South Korea. According to the KOC, South Korean and the DPRK officials will discuss issues including forming a single team in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing if the sports talks take place. South Korea and the DPRK reached an agreement earlier this month that the two sides would march jointly at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 6th Winter Asian Games, which will kick off in Changchun on January 28 and last for eight days. South Korea and the DPRK agreed in principle to form a joint team at the 2008 Olympics, but have yet to settle matters such as the selection of athletes, site of joint training and sharing of costs for training so far. |
