Family violence

American Kim Lee, ex-wife of Li Yang, known for his "Crazy English" language-learning method, said Monday she planned to set up a company in the name of her daughter to teach Chinese women about family violence, the Mirror said.

The couple divorced in February because of Li's domestic violence.

Bad products

Fang Zhouzi, a well-known fraud fighter, said on his blog Monday that collagen products from a company owned by Jimmy Lin Chih-ying do not actually help people stay young.

Lin and his son Kimi, from across the Taiwan Straits, captured the limelight in a recent father-and-kid show, and viewers praised the 39-year-old father's young face.

Zhang Yimou wanted

Chen Jian, who calls himself a spokesman for Zhang Yimou, one of China's best-known movie directors, said on his Weibo on Sunday that Zhang's three children were not extra births since the first child wears glasses and can be regarded as one with a vision defect.

A local newspaper where Zhang and his big family live ran a full-page missing persons notice calling for Zhang himself to clarify the extra birth claims.

Chen's words were questioned by netizens, who said according to his logic, Zhang would never have extra births even if he has 100 children.

Relationship ends

A 32-year-old man surnamed Liu in Wuhan, Hubei province, broke up with his girlfriend after his mother insisted the young couple should have a son in the future, saying that if their first child is a girl, they still have a chance to have a boy because of the new policy allowing couples to have two children if either is a single child.

The mother frightened away her future daughter-in-law, since the young woman is not willing to have two children.

Traditional awards

Authorities from the 4th Tour of Poyang Lake held an award ceremony in the old traditional style of the highest imperial examination.

Cellphone thief returns contacts

A man whose cellphone was stolen on a train received an express package with more than 1,000 of his contacts and their phone numbers sent by the thief, Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported. The man, using the pseudonym Zou Bin, said he sent a message to his phone asking the thief to return it. Several days later, the thief sent the contact numbers but no phone.

Safe haven

A safe haven for abandoned babies will be set up in Shenzhen next year to provide support and equipment for the babies, such as incubators and exhaust fans, before they are sent to local welfare centers, Guangzhou Daily reported.

Luxury car parts

Parts from an abandoned Maserati, such as tires and lamps, were removed by looters after it was parked by the road for over four months in Yulin, Shaanxi province, hsw.cn reported.

The luxury car, valued at about 1.3 million yuan, was suspected of being stolen.
