Underground labyrinth keeps China Pavilion running

Do you know what this place is? Hidden 15 meters underneath the China Pavilion, this is the electrical substation that powers "The Crown of the East" and the surrounding provincial pavilion complex at the Expo 2010 Shanghai, China.

Yang Yaoguo, who works for the Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co, is director of the electrical substation during the Expo.

To guarantee that the electrical substation is functioning smoothly, Yang Yaoguo and his 17 colleagues are split into three units, each working a 24-hour shift before taking two days off.

The 5,000-square-meter substation appears to be a labyrinth to the average person, but Yang Yaoguo knows the operating status of every facility and checks them all every four hours.
