Tencent to provide online conference services to UN anniversary celebration

Tencent Holdings will provide the United Nations technology service solutions during its celebration of the 75th anniversary of the organization’s founding, it was announced on Monday.

As the global partner to the UN, Tencent will provide Tencent virtual conference, enterprise WeChat and Tencent online interpretation services in conferences and activities to be held marking the anniversary. Tecent's AI interpretation has been adopted at more than 100 international conferences, including the Boao Forum for Asia, World Economic Forum and China International Import Expo.

Against the backdrop of the global fight against COVID-19, Tecent's endorsement from the UN will mark the biggest global talks to be technically supported by a Chinese internet enterprise.

Fabrizio Hochschild, special advisor on the Preparations for the Commemoration of the UN's 75th Anniversary, said the partnership will allow the world's biggest organization to reach more people and hear from them about how they can do a better job.

"Through Tencent, we will be able to hold online dialogues across borders, across different age groups, with many people all over the world. We will have better access to better video conferences and digital dialogues. Globe technology firms are critical in our response to global challenges and are very important part of our campaign and effort to reach out and listen to people from across the globe. We believe that this global platform can provide a vital venue for global solidarity," Hochschild said.

Liu Chiping, president of Tencent, pledged sustainable efforts in online conference and communication services to closer connect the world in order to face the common challenge.

"Global cooperation is vital for humans’ well being and future, and as well, for winning the battle against the pandemic. Tencent is honored to join the battle by supporting the celebration of the UN'S 75th anniversary," Liu said.

According to the endorsement, participants to online conferences held by the UN will use Tencent Conference, Enterprise Wechat and Tencent Interpretation.

Apart from international occasions, Tencent Interpretation is popular among users like media and universities and receives as many as 600 million requests for interpreting per day.
