Hong Kong Students' Union loses all credibility with statement

On Thursday evening, the University of Hong Kong Students' Union Council held an emergency meeting and approved a statement to express "deep sadness" to Leung Kin-fai, the assailant who stabbed a policeman on July 1 and later committed suicide.

The deeds of some home-haters in Hong Kong are always even worse than what people expect of them. Who could imagine that in a modern society, a group of young people receiving higher education would mourn a terrorist?

As the official Facebook page of the HKU Students' Union Council shows, they "appreciated" the assailant's "sacrifice" to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. What kind of sacrifice had Leung made? He launched a terrorist attack against a policeman who was guarding Hong Kong people's security. He almost killed the policeman in an incident that brought a cloud of terror over Hong Kong.

A basic principle of civilized behavior is never to spread hate, but HKU Students' Union does not conceal its naked hate to their home city and motherland a bit in its words and deeds. By doing so they had planted hate in the hearts of local youths, which is one important factor that turned some of them into rioters in 2019.

And there is ample evidence pointing to the HKU Students' Union having links with foreign political forces. Jordan Pang Ka-ho, a leader of its council in the 2019 riots, was photographed meeting US Consulate General political unit chief Julie Eadeh in a hotel hall. He openly refused to remove a pro-"independence" poster from their wall in 2018 and is considered a major pusher of Hong Kong "independence".

That's essentially why HKU said it cut seats with the Students' Union Council in April, took their office site back, and suspended collecting fees for the latter. 

Strictly speaking, HKU Students' Union and its council have lost the ability to call itself a "students' organization" since then, let alone acting on behalf of the students there. Their expression of "sadness" to the assailant is more like an act of hyping themselves up to cheat a few more students to pay fees to them.

Whatever evil efforts they render, as a spreader of hate it's an organization that has lost its qualification to represent HKU students and will never gain influence again. They only will be buried in history and covered with dust.
