Wang pledges to strengthen solidarity with developing countries

The visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday said China would continue to strengthen solidarity with developing countries with mutual trust and mutual respect to achieve common development.

Wang made the pledge while meeting with Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere, president of Fiji, which is Wang's fourth leg of his tour to Pacific Island countries.

During the talks, Wang stressed that China's development and revitalization is a shared achievement of developing countries and adds to the strength of world peace. It means China will have more resources and will effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries on the international stage, he added.

Though some forces do not want to see China's development and growth, and seek to contain, delay or even interrupt its development process, Wang said the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation is irreversible.

Relations between China and Fiji have withstood challenges and risks in various forms since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1975, Wang said.

He vowed China would pursue a friendly policy toward Fiji, support the country in achieving prosperity and strength, and playing a greater role in the regional and international arena.

China is ready to carry out more livelihood projects with Fiji and deliver more tangible benefits to the people of Fiji, he added.

Katonivere thanked China for its long-term help and assistance to Fiji, which enables the country to speed up economic development and improve people's living standards.

As the friendship between the two countries enjoys a long history, he said, Fiji is proud of its robust relations with China.

While pledging continued commitment to the one-China principle, the president said Fiji would deepen cooperation with China in various fields to achieve common prosperity.
