China, Senegal commit to making Sino-Africa summit a success

China and Senegal committed to working closely with each other to make the upcoming 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation a success and further strengthen cooperation between China and the continent.

The pledge was made when Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Sunday with Senegal's Foreign Minister Yassine Fall, who is in Beijing to attend the summit, which will be held from Wednesday to Friday.

Wang said the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has become a glorious banner of unity between China and Africa and an important platform for South-South cooperation.

He expressed appreciation for the substantial and fruitful work done by Senegal as the co-chair of the forum, saying China is willing to work with Senegal to make the summit another grand event of bolstering unity and friendship between China and Africa.

China firmly supports African countries in safeguarding their legitimate rights to development and revitalization, Wang said, adding that China stands ready to jointly build an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization.

Fall spoke highly of the great contribution the forum has made to accelerating Africa's development and achieving economic transformation and thanked China for its precious support to the economic and social development of her country.

She noted that during the summit, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye would pay a state visit to China, the first visit for the president to a country outside Africa, to deepen the dynamic comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Senegal attaches great importance to and is willing to actively participate in the Belt and Road Initiative and a series of China-proposed global initiatives to advance the cause of human progress, she added.
