Former Indonesian Speaker of the House, Marzuki Alie, stated that President Xi Jinping's important speech during his visit to Indonesia in 2013 marked the first time a foreign head of state addressed the Indonesian Parliament. Marzuki noted that Xi's proposal in Jakarta to co-build the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road," an important part of the Belt and Road Initiative, has brought significant benefits to the world and leads to shared future and common prosperity. China's development could greatly assist Indonesia in achieving its digital transformation, he said, and China and Indonesia would pursue more sustainable avenues for advancing cooperation in Belt and Road Initiative.
