Foreign Ministry condemns US treatment of Chinese nationals

In response to a recent case of a Chinese national being interrogated and detained for over 48 hours when entering the United States, China expressed dissatisfaction and denouncement on Friday, urging US law enforcement authorities to immediately stop discriminating against Chinese nationals.

Disregarding China's repeated serious representations, relevant US departments have continued wantonly harassing, interrogating and repatriating Chinese nationals with harsh law enforcement practices, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun told a daily news conference.

Such behavior severely damages the lawful rights, interests and dignity, of relevant Chinese nationals, and disrupts normal people-to-people exchanges between China and the US, Guo said.

He urged relevant US authorities to uphold friendly exchanges between the people from the two countries and take effective moves to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

China will stay committed to safeguarding the legitimate and lawful rights and interests of Chinese nationals overseas, he said, while reminding those traveling to the US to be aware of such risks.
