More than 300 experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, and leading industry enterprises worldwide, gathered at the inaugural 2025 Frontier Forum on Future Chemical Engineering held at the Lingang Center in Shanghai on Saturday.

The participants, including more than 20 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the European Academy of Sciences, engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge industry topics, such as green energy, future chemical engineering, and dual carbon strategies, at the event hosted by the East China University of Science and Technology.

A ceremony to appoint experts to the international think tank of the Shanghai green fuel innovation port was held during the forum. Several high-level experts from China, Belgium, Australia, Japan, Canada, and the Netherlands were appointed to provide professional guidance for the development of the city's green fuel innovation system.

The think tank aims to offer high-level strategic consulting and clarify industrial development pathways, providing critical intellectual support as Shanghai accelerates its efforts to become a world-class green fuel hub.

The forum also featured the launch of a disruptive technology to convert biogas carbon into green methanol, aiming to enhance local biogas resource supply and high-value utilization innovations, effectively utilizing biomass resources, such as kitchen waste.

In addition, attendees visited various green chemical application scenarios and solid waste energy utilization systems in Shanghai. The visits facilitated exchanges between universities, enterprises, and government entities, offering new collaboration opportunities on green and low-carbon technologies, from basic research to engineering demonstration and industrial implementation, according to the event organizers.
