Chinese Academy of Engineering names academicians

The Chinese Academy of Engineering announced its new academicians on Thursday, and Jiang Zhuangde, a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, was listed among the 51 new academicians.

Jiang was elected to be the academician of the academy's faculty of mechanical and vehicle engineering.

Jiang, 58, vice-president of the university and director of the university's precision engineering institute, mainly researches micro-electronic mechanical systems and micro-nano technology, precision instruments and sensor technology, and precision and ultra-precision machining technology.

Jiang earned his master's degree in mechanical manufacturing engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1989 and received his PhD in mechanical engineering in Birmingham University, Britain, in 2011.

At Xi'an Jiaotong University, Jiang hosted more than 20 national and provincial key high-tech projects and won a number of national technological awards. He published more than 300 papers and received 58 patents in the past few decades.

Jiang engaged in research on micro-nano manufacturing and precision measurement technology and made great contributions in the fields of high-temperature pressure sensors and MEMS devices series, digital precision measurement technology and equipment and engineering technology.

Jiang also carried out innovative research on the basic theory of micro-nano technology.

In the field of micro-nano manufacturing technology, Jiang hosted research and development on high-temperature pressure sensors and MEMS devices which solved the pressure/acceleration measurement problems under the harsh environment of high temperatures in the fields of aerospace, military, petrochemical and other areas of advanced manufacturing.

Jiang's research broke the monopoly and blockade of foreign technology and greatly promoted the development of high-level MEMS sensor technology in China, which made important contributions to enhance the level and core competitiveness of micro and nano manufacturing technology and to promote industrial/technological progress and construction of national defense.
