China to foster 'inclusive development' with Britain: Premier Li

LONDON - Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Tuesday that China should make further efforts to develop "a partnership of common growth and inclusive development" with Britain.

After meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron, Li told a press conference that as both are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and major economies in the world, China and Britain share broad common interests.

China is the largest developing country while Britain is the first industrialized nation, so further cooperation between the two would not only benefit themselves, but also the whole world, Li noted.

"China is willing to work with Britain to foster a partnership of common growth and inclusive development, and map out a new blueprint and fast track for the development of bilateral ties," he said.

The two countries should also actively promote their trade and cooperation, especially in the fields of nuclear power, high-speed railway and finance.

He also suggested the two sides expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and increase the number of students studying in each other's country, so as to deepen mutual understanding between the youth.

While calling the two countries strong partners, Cameron said Britain is ready to further enhance exchanges and cooperation in politics, trade and economy, and culture.

Cameron welcomed Chinese investment in Britain's infrastructure and civil nuclear energy among others, which he said would benefit the two peoples.

Britain is committed to pushing forward a feasibility study on the EU-China investment agreement talks and an EU-China free trade zone, said the British prime minister.

Premier Li arrived here on Monday for an official visit. Britain is the first leg of his two-nation Europe trip, which will also take him to Greece.
