A boss may give a pep talk to a group of employees to bolster morale and increase productivity, while coaches of sports teams can be found giving pep talks to their team players before and during a game to help them strive for the win. Good friends are frequent givers of pep talks when we’re down and need our spirits lifted. The word “pep” comes from “pepper”, an everyday sharp spice which gives flavor to many dishes. In the same way that you can add pepper to spice up your food, you can “pep” up a person and boost their mood with an invigorating chat.
